DNS
DNS is an acronym for Domain Name System. It is a hierarchical system that translates domain names into IP addresses.
DNS is needed because computers use IP addresses to locate each other on IP networks such as the Internet, however people find that it is easier to remember domain names.
The Domain Name System is therefore used to translate what people type (ie a URL such as www.multiwebia.net) into the IP address (such as 216.245.196.126).
